Bio Squall is the main protagonist of the game. Raised in an orphanage only to be shipped of to Balamb Garden, Squall learned to specialize in Gunblades. The game starts off with Squall and his rival Seifer dueling, which earned both of them with scars on their foreheads. The two were rivals from the start, and it only worsens as the game progresses. After passing his SeeD exam, Squall meets the main herione of the game Rinoa Heartily at the annual SeeD ball. Soon after, Squall is sent to Timber to meet up with the resistance group the Forest Owls which belonged to no other than Rinoa. During the mission, he finds that Seifer is the Sorceress' Knight, and that Rinoa and Seifer had a more than friendly relationship. Through out the game, Squall has wierd dreams where he is in the body of a Galbadian solider called Laguna Loire. However, in reality, these dreams are from the past and Laguna Loire is actually Squall's father. As the game continues, Squall is driven into hunting down the Soreceress while his feelings for Rinoa strengthen. Not only does Rinoa change his perspective on life, but also his personality. Rinoa convinces Squall that he can't live through life only relying on himself out of the fear that if he does rely on others they will just live him in the end. Squall is still learning to open up to others but his relationship with Rinoa is helping the process greatly. Squall is a loner by nature and prefers his own company rather than others. He usually talks only when spoken to and even then only speaks enough to get his point across. Squall was forced into the position of the SeeD Commander, but despite his unwillingness at the start, he turned out to be an excellent leader. Usually his replies consist of 'whatever' and '...' Since his childhood, he had relied on an older girl at the orphange called Ellone, and became very attatched to her, even calling her 'sister'. However, when she left Squall drew back from people and stopped caring about other people. He didn't want to rely on others since he believes if he relies on people in the end they will leave him. He also thinks relying on his allies means he is weak.
